As well as the main ball there are two informal dances a year, one in the summer and one just before Christmas. Formerly known as the ‘Picnic Dances’, they aim to introduce children and teenagers to the fun of reeling and are always hugely popular. Many young who learn to reel at these dances go on to enjoy the main Perth Ball when they turn 18.
The Summer Dance is held at the end of summer holidays in late August/ early September and the Christmas Dance is always held on the 23rd December. Being at a time when people tend to have a house full of family staying, the Christmas Dance is much more of an all-ages event.
As with the main ball the venue for dances is the sparkly Fingask Castle Pavilion. with live music provided by the James Coutts Scottish Reeling Band.
The evening kicks off with a Dashing White Sergeant and Strip the Willow to warm up, followed by a bash at the Reel of the 51st Highland Division. After supper there are four more reels and the evening winds up at 11 pm.
Both Dances are sell out events so it’s advisable to book early. Dates will be announced via our Facebook page and our email newsletter so make sure you subscribe if you want to be the first to know! Email hello@theperthball.com to be put on the list.
Notes for Hosts:
- If you have lots of young children or beginners in your party make sure you have some experienced adults too who are prepared to dance and help out.
- Supper is now included in the ticket price. A typical menu might be lasagne, baked potatoes and salad followed by a pudding. Tables seating approximately 10 are available and seating can be arranged for parties large or small.
- As the main aim of the dance is to teach the young, parties without children or teenagers are not encouraged due to limited space.
- Children under 9 only with the Perth Ball Chairman’s permission please, with the exception of the Christmas Dance when all ages are welcome.
